Travel budget calculator here is computed against Eurostat + World Bank. The inputs are shown, the assumptions are written down, and the result is a range rather than a single number wherever the underlying data supports only a range.

The question here is what a trip costs per day, which is a different question from what a country costs to live in and is answered with the same source read differently. A resident's basket is weighted towards rent and utilities; a visitor's is weighted towards restaurants, hotels and transport, and those three categories are published separately, so the estimate uses them rather than the headline. It cannot price a particular hotel or a particular flight, and a tool that claimed to would be reading a price level as though it were a booking engine.

Worked example: Switzerland against Türkiye. The same standard basket costs about 294 percent more in the first, on the 2024 figures.

It covers 199 countries, which is exactly the set the source measures and no more.

The figures behind this tool describe 2024 and they change when Eurostat + World Bank publishes, not when this page is edited. That is why the year appears next to every value rather than in the small print: a tool whose data is a year old and says so is more useful than one that looks current and is not.

Questions

Where do the numbers come from?

Travel budget calculator computes against Eurostat + World Bank. Every figure it uses carries the institution that published it and the year it describes.

Is the result a quote?

No. It is an estimate from published statistics, and it says which statistics and for which year. Anything binding has to come from whoever is going to charge you.
